Welcome to my blog! As I embark on this exciting new chapter, I invite you to join me on my journey. After a rewarding 18 years in the tech industry as a Brand Strategy Consultant, Public Speaker, and mentor, I've made a significant shift into health and wellness. Yes, you heard it right! I am now a massage student at the European School of Massage Therapy in Las Vegas, Nevada.
So far, I absolutely love it here!
Excitement and New Beginnings
Stepping into the world of massage therapy is inspiring. The decision to change careers was profound and not without its challenges. However, I discovered a deep yearning for something more impactful, and health and wellness became my new passion. From my very first day at school, I felt that I had made the right choice. The facilities are pristine, bathed in calming colors and filled with a welcoming atmosphere that transforms learning into an enjoyable experience.
The school has over classrooms and treatment rooms, which provide different aspects of massage therapy training, from Swedish techniques to sports massage. The environment encourages scientific method, clear communication, and strong ethical standards.
Supportive Instructors
One of the standout aspects of my experience so far has been the instructors. Every educator I’ve met is not only skilled but also genuinely enthusiastic about helping students succeed. Classes are interactive and engaging. Whether it's honing techniques through hands-on practice or exploring the anatomy of the human body, I find myself eagerly anticipating each class.
For instance, one of my favorite classes with Chris Melmoth introduced us to myofascial release techniques. Chris took the time to ensure that each student was comfortable with the techniques being taught, and things to look out for to best help our clients.
A Focus on Inclusion
Being a non-traditional student can feel daunting, but the European School of Massage Therapy embraces diversity and inclusion wholeheartedly. Here, there is a strong sense of community, which has significantly smoothed my transition. The staff and fellow students are warm and supportive, which turns any initial feelings of uncertainty into motivation. I feel valued, which fuels my passion for this new path.
Many students at the school are career changers like myself, all bringing unique experiences and perspectives. This diversity enriches discussions and learning opportunities, turning the classroom experience into a vibrant exchange of ideas where we mentor each other.
Leadership with a Vision
At the forefront of this positive atmosphere is John Teng, the Program Director. His commitment to education and genuine desire to see us succeed are truly inspiring. He is more than just a director; he acts as a mentor who cares deeply about our progress. Knowing that I have someone like him guiding me brings comfort as I navigate this journey.

The Journey Forward
As I write this, I’m filled with excitement for the learning that lies ahead. I’ve started to immerse myself in various methodologies and techniques that I can't wait to share with you. This marks just the beginning of my journey as a massage student. I am committed to not only learning but also documenting my experiences and growth along the way.
Notably, I plan to focus on the importance of self-care both for clients and for myself as a practitioner, as studies indicate that around 70% of massage therapists experience burnout. Understanding how to manage this will be essential for my success.
